'ART ON THE LAWN'

Good Morning Peeps!

Well this show went pretty well. We really enjoyed it - had a few sales and some contacts. This was a well established show - over 20 years so it drew a big crowd. Unlike the first show, there was no rain! Yeah! This being the 2nd show - we were also more relaxed. I know that I need to focus on some smaller items but hopefully I will be combining the art with some quality crafts.

Keep watching my blog and please make comments - it really makes you feel good when people comment.

Thanks

Happy Day!

SHOW!

Things here have been pretty busy - getting ready for a show this weekend ' Art on the Lawn' in Yellow Springs. Wish me well - hope to get more exposure to the public art world!

Had all 4 grandsons this past weekend - we had a great time - went to a museum for a Dragon Exhibit on Friday night, swimming, Butterfly Festival and Dayton Dragons Game all on Saturday! In between time there were kickball games, playing chess, drawing and playing a computer game - that's what happens when you have three 9 year olds and one 5 year old - must keep everyone busy - but I think all had a great time!

Must get back to work!

AS TIME GOES BY!

This is a watercolor painting done on 300# arches watercolor paper. The actual painting is 13 x 17 and the overall measurement is 25 X 21. It has a double matt, burgundy over ivory with a walnut frame with dust cover on the back.As you can see it is a mandolin with a bottle of wine and the sheet music of 'As Time Goes by' from Casablanca. It also has a book and a bowl. If you would like, I could also change the name of the song and put a different initial on the wine bottle. This is a great picture for over the bar.

Here is my Birdhouse with a cat Pen & Ink painting. It is 11.5 x 13.5 with the overall size 14.5 x 17. It has a painted frame in charcoal with white splatter paint and a wooden feather as an added embellishment.

The weather here was absolutely wonderful here today - we had a birthday party for the Brother-in-law which has been a tradition for over 40 years. Turned out very nice!

Both Gracie and Heidi was groomed Friday for the party - so they were their absolute best! Heidi, the Great Pry, is so white you need sunglasses to look at her now.

Have a great week!!!!!

GIRAFF PRINT

This is a print of my original watercolor painting. It measures 12 x 18 on archival paper. The background is scrunchy (if there is such a word) blue. These would be cute in a nursery or a child's (0-100) room. This comes shrinkwrapped.

ART AFFAIR ON THE SQUARE

Here is what I have been working on! Getting several of my paintings ready for this show. It was my first real art show - I did it with my friend who makes candles. It was 'ok' but it rained half of the day which was a real disappointment and a little bit scary. I was afraid that my pictures would be ruined - but they were not! I didn't sell much but neither did anyone else. I don't know if it was the economy or the weather. Not too bad of a crowd.
At least I have the first 'scary' one under my belt and am looking forward to the next one in Yellow Springs, Ohio - the Art in the Park in August. It was a learning experience for me!
I think that I might have some leads from it - since people took my business card.

HEIDI SAYS "WHAT?"

Well, here is what I have been working on! My baby - Miss Heidi - our Great Pyrenees! She is almost 4 years old and very, very loveable. A 90# lapdog. This is done on 140# watercolor with winsor-newton paints. It is approximately 11x14.
Let me know if anyone is interested in a painting of their favorite pet. I paint from pictures.
Chat later!

Well, Katie is back by popular demand. I was asked to do this doll for a friend who's mother bought this same doll about 27 years ago at a craft show. Katie has always been a hit! She is 18" tall and is soft sculptured. She has flower eyes, hand stitched nose and mouth, sculptured fingers, ears and dimples in the knees. She has a pink with butterflies dress with matching panties and an eyelet pinafore. Her socks are real baby socks with felt shoes. I have hand stitched each strand of her hair on and added ribbons to her ponytails.

She is always a joy to make - she just comes to life right in front of me!!!!!

If you are interested, she is $40.00 plus shipping. She can be made in different colors to suit you.

It has been a great weekend, went to a hosta walk on Saturday and spent the rest of the day in Columbus. I had never been to a Hosta walk - they had over 600 hostas at this farm north of Columbus, Ohio - could have spent a fortune - but only bought a half of dozen. Beautiful speciums!

Thanks for looking!!!!!

As you can see I am expanding my blog - I am now going to be posting many things that I make. For instance, let me introduce you to Lizzie & Lenny - they are looking to be adopted by a loving, cozy family. They are 18" soft cloth dolls that are now on my Etsy page - go to www.wilbee26@etsy.com to see their profile.

I haven't been on here much lately because after doing the Memorial Day Parade, that I described in a previous post, I immediately starting on the Cancer Relay for Life that was held from 6:00 p.m. to 12:00 p.m. the next day - June 5th & 6th. I was the Captain for our Exchange Club so I had to make sure every thing was organized. It was really a lot of fun, and very, very heart warming. I had a luminary dedicated to both of my parents who passed away from Cancer and I walked in the survivor walk as I am a twice survivor of melanoma! Thank God for great Doctors! I truly believe that they have saved my life. If you have never participated in one of these it is well worth doing - it makes you feel so good that people care!!!!! We are going to beat this Cancer thing!!!!!!!

Oh, by the way, I donated a print of my Kohl dog painting that is posted here on the blog. They promoted it by saying that it was done by a cancer survivor! The gentleman that won it was tickled!

So - now I hope to be better at updating my blog. I will probably be posting in another couple of days!!!!!

Happy Painting everyone!!!!

Tuesday, May 26, 2009

Well, I'm not good about doing a blog without pictures of my work but I have not had time this weekend to work on them. By this being Tuesday (my Monday) morning and realizing that I did not touch a paint brush or a color pencil for the last 5 days is very depressing for me. But we had a wonderful weekend here - the weather was wonderful. I'm involved with The Exchange Club of Springfield which is a service organization that is 98 years old and 2 weeks ago we had our district convention in Sandusky and then this last weekend we were in the Memorial Day Parade - one of our service projects is 'Give A Kid A Flag' to instill patriotism in children - so we passed out over 2400 flags and that was on about 1/3 of the parade route - but it really was fun. I was stunned at how many adults wanted flags also. It is very heart warming to see how people love our country!

I'm working on a watercolor single Rose that should be done this week. For my upcoming show in July I need to focus on some smaller (8x10) pictures so that is my goal. I want to do this same rose in different colors. At the parade I had my camera with me, of course, you hardly ever find me with out one, and got some great shots of some horses (my favorite animal - next is dogs) so I'm hoping to attempt them. They were beautiful - a 4-H club - they had stenciled Stars on them and red/white & blue sparkley streamers one the tails. You never know when you are going to see something that might make a great painting!

I guess it looks like I'm getting the hang of this after all.

Have a great day everyone!!!!!!!

Here is my latest portrait - Little Luke! He is 18 months old in this picture - I hope you can see the reference photo - I decided not to do the flowers behind him because I wanted it to be just him - the focus to be just Luke! This is done on smooth bristol with prismacolor pencils and it measures appoximately 12x14. He is not done - I think I might use some watercolor to smooth out and give the background more texture. Just need some tweaking!

Have a great day - Bev

Just a note to say that I hope everyone had a wonderful Mother's Day! Both of my girls were tied up with work but called - so hubby and I went hiking with the 2 dogs. Absolutely beautiful day!

I'm working on a color pencil portrait of my 3rd cousin - little 18 month old Luke. Will post it here shortly - hope to have it done this week. Got some tweaking to do to it.

Happy Painting!

As you can see I have done some changes to the General's picture. I made is right arm about 1/2" wider and his right cheek is out a little more. This color on this picture is more true to the original one than the other post. I used the solvent method on this and really like the look - I didn't do it on the head but on the uniform - it makes it look like a painting. I'm getting more comfortable in doing portraits - in fact I'm really liking it.

We are finally getting some nice weather here starting today - anxious to paint outside.

Check out my Etsy postings. www.wilbee26.etsy.com - I have 2 listings on there right now and intend to add more every day.

I will post more later!

Happy Thursday!!!!!

GENERAL AUGUSTUS SEWELL

Here is my latest color pencil painting. It is 10x13 on mitense paper. I think that I need to readjust it. It was fun to do - I like using OMS on the color pencil technique - it looks like I actually painted it. The wax just melts together. I will post the update when I figure out how to correct them.

Happy Painting everyone!!!!!

Sunday, April 19, 2009

Just a note to say that I am now working on a color pencil painting that i will post later when it is done "The General".

This is my attempt to do one of the twin grandsons - I'm not really pleased with this - I think that I need to do something different with his mouth.

Magnolia

Here is my watercolor magnolia - it was done on 300# arches and has the salt technique done on it. This is one of my first - I had never done the salt before - isn't it amazing our little tricks that we do - before I started studying art - I would never thought of putting salt on my wet picture!!!! Always something fun and interesting - that's why it is 'Happy Painting'.

KOHL'S PRIDE

I just finished this - it is a 10 x 12 color pencil painting. This dog is a theraphy dog belonging to a co-member of the Exchange Club here in Springfield. Actually, it is his daughter's dog - Kohl. They dress him up for different occasions. She made a note card from her snapshot and he brought it to show me since I love dogs. I loved it and asked permission for me to paint it. I decided to do the color pencil on bristol smooth with prismacolors. I also used Odor Mineral Spirits which turns it into a wonderful painting look picture. I have also made prints of this which will both be available on my website which will be up shortly.

Happy April 1st!!!!!

Here is my 'Star of Wonder' that I painted acrylic on canvas board. What fun it was to do! All of the stippling for the fun was fun. If you are interested in bears, please keep an eye on my blog because I am working on a couple of others.

Well, here we are - my first art show! This is in downtown Springfield - a brand new gallery - Xcetra Art Gallery. It went very well, regardless of how nervous I was. We had a good turn out for the grand opening. The gallery isn't really done yet - but the possibilities are pretty good. It was a very nice assortment of art including digital, rock sculpting, jewelry, stained glass, fabric and candles that looked and smelled good enough to eat. They were in the shape of a stack of pancakes, tarts, cup of black coffee with a stack of oatmeal cookies - all as candles! Also, there was the watercolor, oil, pastels, color pencils - I know I missed something but, like I said, it was a good opening and I know it will grow!
We had a great time, met quiet a few of other local artist and people who are sincerely interested in art. My pictures will be there for 30 days and then there will be another show. The pictures on the wall are my originals and the ones on the floor are prints.
Now I must get ready for my next show - we are lauching my website this week - please keep looking for that update.
Thanks everyone for looking at my blog!!!!

This is a color pencil painting of my oldest Grandson, Vinny - 8 years old. It is 11x14 done on tan mitense paper with prismacolor pencils. It like to do portraits and do them from photographs. I do them on commission and need 2-3 photos to make sure that I get the face, eyes, hair etc correct.
If anyone would like one - please feel free to contact me.

ANHINGA

This is my Anhinga also known as a Water Turkey. He is 9 x 12 on watercolor paper. I started out doing watercolor but couldn't get the look that I wanted so I added color pencils - so it is a multi-media painting. I just loved this little guy (probably 2' tall) he was at the lagoon every night behind the house we were staying at on our honeymoon in South Carolina.

LITTLE BOY WITH MOTHER DUCK

This is a color pencil painting that I have finished. It was a real challenge at first, in fact I gave it away to a friend who was going to finish it. Needless to say she gave it back to me many months later and I made myself finish it and when I did I was so proud of it. This picture does not do it justice - it is really beautiful - most people cannot believe that it is done in color pencils.
It is done on tan mitense paper (which is my favorite) and the finished product will fit in a 16 x 20 frame. I used all prismacolor pencils and a touch of soft pastel for the fog in the background of the pond.

10 LITTLE PELICANS

This is an acrylic on watercolor paper. It was a lot of fun to do - it is painted on top of different gel mediums then stamped and scraped with a fork, several things to give it texture. When it was dry then I painted on top of the texture.

Len's Hibiscus

This is a watercolor that I finished a couple of weeks ago. It is about 14 x 17 on 300# arches watercolor paper. I will be showing it at a brand new local art gallery the end of this month. I will have the original matted and framed and then have prints to purchase also and maybe some greeting cards.

I did this as a dedication to my father who passed away in January. It is a photo that I took of one of his hibiscus's in Florida. It is all watercolor except the white veins and I used waterdown acrylic paint for those with a red wash over the top.

My Girls on the Beach

This is a color pencil painting that I did using prismacolors on blue mi-tense paper. It is approximately 14x17. This was done as a lesson doing waves realistically.

COLOR PENCIL SANTA PAINTING!

This is a color pencil painting that I did as a wedding/college graduation gift for my niece. It is approximately 14 x 17 on beige mitiense paper with all prismacolor pencils. These are fun to do - and really don't take much time. I really like to give Christmas items for wedding gifts so that they have something to put out at Christmas time and, hopefully, it will be considered a heirloom.

I had it framed in gold with a green suede mat with a gold undermat and gold beading around the painting.
